Ms. Katie Forshee passed away in May 2004, and upon her death, unbeknownst to the University, Forshee named Fayetteville State as a benefactor in her will, leaving over $100,000 to the university. About
Fayetteville State University, a constituent institution of The University of North Carolina, is the second-oldest public institution of higher education in the state. Founded in 1867 as the Howard School for the education of African Americans, today FSU serves a growing student body of over 5,600 and ranks among the nation’s most diverse campus communities.
FSU thrives with a rapidly increasing and diverse student body while at the same time average SAT scores for entering students have also improved. The university has reached record enrollment with over 6,700 students.
Already offering a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, new degree programs have also been established. The university offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the arts and sciences, business and economics, and education. FSU consistently ranks among the nation’s top producers of African American baccalaureate and master’s graduates.
While providing high-quality academics is our primary focus, FSU also has a growing presence in the Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association Conference. Bronco teams have won eleven CIAA championships in recent years, most recently the 2002 CIAA Football Championship. In both men and women sports, FSU scholar-athletes proudly excel in the classroom as well as on the playing field, upholding the FSU tradition of excellence in NCAA Division II sports.
With an attractive campus with state-of-the-art facilities, and a nurturing faculty, Fayetteville State University offers all of the advantages of a large university while maintaining the atmosphere of a closely-knit liberal arts campus.
While a recent study of 3,000 higher education institutions identified Fayetteville State University as one of the most affordable four-year public universities in the country, 75% of our students rely on some type of financial assistance to finance the cost of their college education.
As a public assisted institution, FSU receives only 48% of its total annual revenue budget from State appropriations. To meet the difference between funding revenue and our funding needs, we partner with others who know the value of a high-quality higher education--partners like you. As a partner, you are an integral part of helping to make our achievements possible and you are a valued member of our team.
